PROF. SYED MUNIR KHASRU is Chairman of the international think tank The Institute for Policy, Advocacy, and Governance (IPAG) with presence in South Asia (Dhaka & Delhi), Asia Pacific (Melbourne), Middle East (Dubai), Europe (Vienna), and Africa (Mauritius). An MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, US he is a Global Expert of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Member of (i) SDG’s Global Councils by UN, World Bank, & OECD and (ii) Energy Leaders’ Forum, Asian Development Bank (ADB). He is Chairman of the Bangladesh chapter for UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
Prof. Khasru has written nine policy briefs for the G20 Leadership Summits from 2017-2022 and is the only person to be the Co-Chair of two G20 Task Forces for (i) SDG and (ii) Digital Transformation under the G20 Indonesia Presidency for 2022. Under the current G7 Presidency under Japan he is the Co-chair of the G7 Task Force on “Peace, Security, and Global Governance” for the G7 Leadership Summit to be held in Hiroshima, Japan on May 19-21, 2023. For the Glasgow COP26, the UN invited leading global thinkers across the world to write for SDSN’s exclusive publication. Prof. Khasru wrote on “A digital revolution to tackle climate change”. During the Global Solutions Forum held in Dubai Expo, UAE from January 17-19, 2022, Prof. Khasru spoke in the high-level closing plenary session on the pandemic.
Among recent events, in July 4, 2022, Prof. Khasru spoke in New Delhi, India at the “Regional consultation on strengthening climate resilient low carbon & inclusive growth in Asia”, organized by Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe), India, in collaboration with International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. In April 20, 2022, he spoke on “Leveraging Energy Connectivity for Sustainable Transitions” at the 13th South Asia Economic Summit (SAES) in New Delhi hosted by the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. He was one of the keynote speakers of the conference on “International Best Practices in Power & Energy Sector”. He conducted training and capacity building programs organized by the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) in Bhutan on “Energy for regional integration in South Asia: Building capacity for greater connectivity” and on “Power & energy in South Asia: Connectivity through cooperation” in Bangladesh.
Prof. Khasru is the editor of five international publications on (i) Environmental sustainability and international trade (i) Trading in power & energy: A regional and international dimension (ii) Energy efficiency: Practices & policies (iv) International best practices in power & energy (v) Connectivity & trading in power & energy: A regional & international perspective. He authored five chapters in these international publications.
Prof. Khasru is a regular contributor in some of the leading international media outlets which include the Project Syndicate (Global), World Economic Forum (Global), Straits Times (Singapore), South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), Nikkei Asia (Japan), and the Hindu (India).
